12 quick tips on how to improve your website design

Table of Contents

If you want to improve your online presence and attract new clients, then a well-designed website is definitely a must. Whether you already have a website with outdated content or you’re just starting out, here are five reasons why these tips on how to improve your website design are essential:

1. Improved branding – A top-notch web design can help your business stand out from the competition. Potential clients will be more likely to visit your site if they know you’re looking reputable and have something valuable to offer.

2. Increased traffic – A well-designed website can generate serious attention from potential buyers and clients. With high volumes of visitors coming through your pages on a regular basis, you’ll be in good shape to increase sales and drive traffic back to your site again and again!

3. Improved user experience – Visitors expect an intuitive user experience when visiting any website, no matter how big or small it is. Poorly designed websites can frustrate users and quickly turn them away – don’t let this happen to you!

4. Increased conversions – A well-designed website leaves a lasting impression on potential clients, which often leads to increased conversions (sales/registration forms filled out). Keep things simple so that users understand what it is that you offer right away, instead of struggling through confusing menus or convoluted navigation options!

5. Increased security – It goes without saying that any site that handles sensitive data should be properly secured against hackers and cybercriminals who may try to gain access in order for them to steal information or defraud unsuspecting visitors. Upgrading your web design will go a long way in securing your site against attackers!

A well-designed website can help you attract new clients, increase brand awareness, and generate leads and sales. Poorly designed websites can frustrate users, result in lost leads and sales, and even damage your brand’s reputation. By taking the time to improve your website design and have a website that looks and performs well, you can create a powerful marketing tool that will benefit your business for years to come.

Website design is an important part of any online business. If your website isn’t designed well, then it won’t be effective. In this article, I’m going to share 12 quick tips on how to improve your website design. By following these tips, you can create a website that is both visually appealing and easy to use. So if you want to improve your website design and its look and functionality, keep reading!

Check if your website is mobile friendly

It’s important to make sure your website is mobile-friendly. That means the design, content, and functionality all work well on a phone. If you can’t see how your site would look or function on a mobile device, it’s time to make some changes.

Today, more than half of a website’s traffic comes via mobile phone. And it’s growing! In fact, according to Statista, mobile now accounts for more than two-thirds of all internet traffic. So if you want your website to be successful, make sure it’s optimized for mobile devices.

If your website design isn’t mobile-friendly, visitors can quickly quit before they get to the information just because elements are cluttered, cut off, or don’t appeal.

To ensure your website is mobile-friendly, make sure all text is readable and that all graphics are scaled down to fit on a small screen. Use clear, concise language, and make sure all buttons are easy to click. You can also add responsive design features so that your site adjusts to different devices.

If you want your website to be seen by as many people as possible, you need to make sure it looks great on all devices. This means creating a design that is both visually appealing and easy to use.

Use white space with confidence

When you have room for some extra white space on your website, don’t be afraid to use it. White space can be used to break up long paragraphs, add emphasis, or create a sense of order and hierarchy in your pages, making it a fantastic way to improve your website design.

Too often, we see content that’s crammed into one or two columns with no breathing room. This makes for difficult reading, and can actually lead to decreased engagement with your content. Use white space liberally to help readers take in your content at a glance, and to help them stay focused on your message.

Use empty spaces between elements such as text and images to increase the readability of your site.

By breaking up your content into smaller, more manageable chunks, you’ll make it easier for users to navigate and find the information they’re looking for. This is especially important when you have a lot of information on your site.

Too many cluttered areas of images and graphics can create a cluttered feel and visitors can easily miss call-to-action areas (e.g. buttons that call to action).

Use white space to your advantage. It’s a great way to organize and clean up your images and graphics. Use it to create a sense of order and to separate different elements on your page. For example, use a margin between paragraphs to divide them visually, or center different elements on the page using white space.

When writing for the web, it’s important to use white space effectively. Not only does this help your content look cleaner and more organized, but it also makes it easier for readers to scan and understand your content quickly.

Change the generic stock photos on your website

Generic stock photos can be a drag on your website’s visual appeal. Replace them with photos that better represent your brand and help you stand out from the competition, making it a genuine way to improve your website design.

People care if products and services are offered by someone real. You can use pictures of yourself, the people who work with you, and your products. This will help create a more trustful relationship with your clients. It also shows that you’re serious about your business, and you’re invested in making sure your clients are happy.

People want to know that the brands and products they’re buying are from a real person, not a faceless corporation. This is especially important when it comes to things like therapy and coaching.

Use quality images to create the impression of a serious business. Blurred or poor-resolution photos can lower confidence in your business as being genuine.

Make sure your photos are high quality. Have someone take photos of you in a professional setting, such as in front of a beautiful backdrop or in an interesting location. Use good natural lighting and avoid taking pictures that are blurry or have poor resolution. This will help create a more serious impression of your business and make clients more confident in working with you.

Don’t be afraid to use call-to-action sections and buttons

When people come to your site, do they know what to do next? They won’t know what pages to look at or what to do unless you tell them that.

Be sure to use call-to-action sections and buttons in your content, as they can help encourage readers to take specific actions. This could include signing up for your email list, downloading a free ebook, listening to your podcast, or booking a session with you.

Buttons and call-to-action sections give the visitor direction on what step to take next. They are an essential part of any website. By directing visitors to specific areas on your page, you can increase conversion rates, encourage them to take the next step, and improve your website design easily.

Consider adding calls to action on every page to help guide your visitors toward the specific goals you’ve set for your website. This will help keep them on track and ensure that they get the most out of their visit!

Use short sentences on your website copy

When writing website copy, try to keep your sentences as short as possible. This will help make your content more readable and easier to follow.

If you’re writing a blog post, use sub-headings to divide your content into easily digestible chunks. Keep paragraphs short and avoid walls of text wherever possible. Try to break up your content with bulleted lists, images, and boxes. Use bullet points to make complex information easier to follow. Look at your work critically and be sure to remove any unnecessary words or phrases.

To keep your website visitor’s attention, it’s recommended to keep your sentences short and to the point. 12 words or fewer is ideal so that they can easily follow your message.

Paragraphs should be no longer than 3-4 sentences. Short paragraphs make your writing easier to understand for the visitor. This will help them follow your argument and understand what you are saying.

Don’t neglect your homepage

Your homepage is the first impression your visitors will have of your website. It should be designed to impress and engage them, with a clear focus on what your website offers.

Your homepage is one of the first things people see when they visit your website. Make sure it’s effective and user-friendly, and that it reflects your brand and message.

The homepage is where visitors normally land and where they create their first impression of your business. It is important that this first impression be a positive one. What is even more important, however, is to create an impression that is appealing enough to help visitors convert into leads.

Your homepage is more than just a static page. It’s the gateway to your business, and it needs to be well-designed and easy to navigate. Make sure you have enough information on the front page but don’t stop there – use other pages as gateways to introduce your products and services. The first impressions you make will impact your sales figures, so make sure your homepage is top-notch!

Another common mistake therapists and coaches make is placing too much information on the homepage. Instead, try to focus your site on specific topics or areas. This will make it easier for people to find what they’re looking for and reduce the number of clicks they have to take, which is a great way to improve your website design.

Build trust with clients’ testimonials

As a business, it’s important to build trust with your clients. And one of the best ways to do that is to feature their testimonials prominently on your website and other marketing materials. Not only will this reassure your clients that you’re a reputable business, but it will also show potential new clients that you’re someone they can trust.

Ask clients to write or record a quick video testimonial for you. This will give you an opportunity to feature their personality as well as their words.

The quickest way to gain people’s trust is to offer proof that other people have bought your products or services.

Improve your website design by including one or more sections on your website where visitors can read real, honest recommendations from your clients.

Check the color contrast on your website

Make sure your website’s colors are easy to see and contrast well with each other. Poor color contrast can make it difficult for people to find what they’re looking for, and can also lead to eye fatigue.

People will not read what they cannot see. Always use a contrasting color for text against the background. I would recommend using a dark color for your text to help it stand out. This will help make your writing more readable and easier to follow.

To create a visually pleasing website, it’s okay to use colors that are different from one another. However, make sure the colors work well together so that visitors can easily read the text and see the graphics.

No one will be able to read bright blue text on a light green background because there isn’t enough contrast between the two. Or on the same light green background, a bright pink font creates too strong a contrast, hard on the visitor’s eyes.

Don’t choose a color just because it’s your favorite. Keep your audience in mind. Every color evokes emotion and there is a psychology behind each one. For example, blue is known as the color of the ocean and the sky, which makes it associated with feelings of relaxation and calm. On the other hand, red is associated with passion and energy, which makes it perfect for businesses that need to be aggressive in their competition.

Add a contact page

Having a contact page is already a great way to improve your website design. You can’t imagine how frequently I see the mistake of not building one on a DIY website.

To make sure your contact page is effective, you need to design it well. This is where you have one last chance to convince the client to contact you.

Don’t just add a simple contact form in the footer (bottom of the page). The contact page is one of the most important pages on your website, it’s how your clients can reach you. If they can’t find your contact information easily, where they expect it, they get frustrated and give up on contacting you.

Make sure your contact information is easy to find. Place it prominently on the page, in a place where people are likely to see it. Don’t bury it under layers of other content. You can also use call-to-action buttons to encourage people to contact you.

In addition to your email address and contact form, add other ways for potential clients to contact you.

Improve your website’s speed

A website’s speed is one of the most important factors in determining whether or not it will be successful. Poor website speed can frustrate and even anger visitors, leading to lower conversion rates and a loss of clients.

How many times have you had to leave a website because it took too long to load?

Loading times are important. If a website takes too long to load, you’re likely to leave. Slow loading times can also frustrate users and make it difficult to buy or complete a transaction.

Clean up your website, uninstall plugins you don’t need, delete pictures you don’t use, and compress the images you use to increase the loading speed of your website, therefore, an amazing way to improve your website design.

By making these simple changes to your website, you can improve the speed and performance of the website. Not only will this improve the user experience, but it will also help you rank higher on search engines.

Activate your SSL certificate

This tip is not just about how to improve your website design, but it’s about how secure is your website!

To ensure your website’s security, it’s important to activate your SSL certificate. This will encrypt all of your traffic, ensuring that your data is protected as it travels between your website and the browser of a potential visitor.

An HTTPS protocol ensures security by encrypting communication between your site and other sites protecting things like search history, and card numbers when making an online payment.

The HTTPS protocol verifies that the address of your website is the one that the server where you store information should communicate with and prevents data theft.

When you’re online, it’s important to protect yourself and your data. One way to do that is by activating your SSL certificate. SSL certificates encrypt your traffic, making it difficult for anyone to intercept and steal your information.

Don’t get too creative with your website design

The last tip on how to improve your website design is all about not overcomplicating things for yourself when building your website!

People are used to a standard design: having the menu at the top of the page, logo at the top left, social media buttons at the bottom of the page, mobile-friendly design, etc.

If you want to be creative and stand out, do it through writing, pictures, colors, etc. but don’t change the way the design is commonly built to avoid confusion and frustration.

One simple and quick trick you can do to make your site easy to use is to create a clear and concise navigation menu. This will help users know where they are and what they need to do next.

The most important thing to remember when designing your website is to make it easy for people to find what they’re looking for. Make sure all the elements are placed where they should be and that they’re easy to understand.

While you may be tempted to design your website in a way that reflects your unique brand, resist the urge. Stick to classic design principles and make sure your website looks good on all devices.

A well-designed website can help you attract new clients, grow your business, and achieve other marketing goals. It should be easy to navigate, look professional, and include all the key information your clients need to make a buying decision.
